The safety of your employees is our highest priority. That is why Saf-T-Gard’s Voltgard® Electrical Safety Division offers a 24/7 storm response hotline (1-844-VOLTGARD) for the emergency shipments of rubber insulating products and safety equipment including PPE.
Our centralized Chicago-area location conveniently offers nationwide service and is just minutes away from FedEx and UPS service centers, and near Chicago's O'Hare International Airport for express air shipments. |
SAF-T-SUCCESS STORIES Holiday Weekend Support After receiving an urgent call for support over a holiday weekend, the Voltgard® team tested and shipped numerous boxes of rubber goods, blankets, and sleeves. Product was delivered to the local UPS facility to aid a major utility company in regaining power after a tornado shut down their local airport. Ice Storm Salvation With no common carriers available to make delivery, and no messenger service available due to icy roads, the Voltgard® team personally delivered dozens of pairs of gloves on a Sunday morning during a severe ice storm. National Disaster Support
As an electrical contractor was mobilizing crews for a caravan to aid in natural disaster support, the Voltgard® team coordinated the pickup of a trailer full of arc-rated rainsuits and other PPE. The contractor routed a portion of their convoy by the Voltgard® facility, hitched up the trailer and met up with the rest of their team. THE VOLTGARD® DIFFERENCE |

Conveniently Shop Saf-T-Gard Food Safety Solutions All in One Spot Including Products for Food Processing, Production, & Service |
The food and beverage industry has one of the highest rates of job-related injuries and illnesses. According to a study published in the Journal of Occupational and Environmental Medicine, U.S. food industry workers have a 60% higher rate of occupational illness and injury compared to workers in non-food industries and a lost-time industry more than twice as high.
From food production and processing to distribution, storage, and retail, the industry is fraught with many different hearing, respiratory, eye and face, hand/arm, and slip/fall hazards including the following: |
- Prolonged or repeated exposure to excessive noise levels
-
Exposure to chemicals and contaminants used to protect raw materials and equipment from cross contamination and particle or microbial contamination during handling and cleaning
- Exposure to airborne dust, chemical splashes, hot liquids, extreme temperature changes, and other materials and situations that put worker’s eyes and vision at risk
-
Exposure to biological hazards; potential skin absorption of harmful substances; severe lacerations, cuts, punctures, and abrasions; extreme temperatures and burns
- Working in extreme temperatures, low visibility, confined spaces, and other risky environmental conditions
- Exposure to wet surfaces and unsecure walkways
|
Without proper PPE, all of these hazards are potential injuries (and possibly even fatalities) waiting to happen. However, with the appropriate food safety tools and equipment, you can protect your workers from the daily, on-the-job hazards they face while also increasing productivity, efficiency, and peace of mind.
To help ensure safe and healthy working conditions, OSHA has set and is enforcing the following regulations regarding PPE usage for the food industry, including the following: |
- 29 CFR 1910.133 – Eye and face protection
-
29 CFR 1910.134 – Respiratory protection
- 29 CFR 1910.138 – Hand protection
- 29 CFR 1910.95 – Hearing protection

WHAT A SIGHT! - The ANSI-ISEA 107 standard focuses on hazards associated with low visibility on the outdoor jobsite. Choose the proper class traffic safety vest for the application.
WE'LL DRINK TO THAT - Dehydration is the leading cause of heat-related injuries. The body absorbs electrolyte fluid beverages (like Sqwincher®) several times faster than water alone.
REAL KICK BACK STUFF - Protective footwear can now be selected for specific chemical protection, durability, steel toe protection, and slip-resistant safety soles. JACK AND JILL WENT UP THE HILL - and we are sure they were wearing fall protection equipment.
GOIN' TO THE MAT - Anti-fatigue matting combines safety with comfort to enhance worker productivity. |
Question - What's the penalty for violating an OSHA standard?
Answer - OSHA penalties range from $0 to $70,000, depending upon how likely the violation is to result in serious harm to workers. Other-than-serious violations often carry no penalties but may result in penalties of up to $7,000. Serious violations may have penalties up to $7,000. Repeat and willful violations may have penalties as high as $70,000. Penalties may be discounted if an employer has a small number of employees, has demonstrated good faith, or has few or no previous violations. For more information on OSHA penalties, see Section 17 of the OSH Act or information on penalties in the OSHA Publication "All About OSHA."

Norma Aguilar is a Customer Service Representative at Saf-T-Gard International, Inc. and joined the company two years ago. What Norma likes about Saf-T-Gard: "My actual job. I’m busy all day, and that makes the day go by faster. I have a great working relationship with my boss and co-workers, which helps a great deal as well.” What makes Norma’s day: “Staying busy! Not having me busy in the office is NEVER a good idea for anyone! Just ask my boss, Elizabeth. LOL.”
Norma’s outside interests are: “I’m a huge Abraham Lincoln/Civil War history fan. I’m always looking to find a museum to learn more about it. I also love Spanish dancing and hanging out with my daughter, Amanda. She’s the love of my life and the reason I breathe.” |
An employee is to perform work inside an electrical panel. The electrical disconnect is open and has been properly locked out. The electrical circuitry below the disconnect has been confirmed to be in a zero-energy state by a qualified person using test equipment. Does the employee need to wear full flame-resistant (FR) clothing, head and face protection, and rubber insulating gloves when working on a panel that has been completely de-energized, either disconnecting and locking out the panel itself or by disconnecting and locking out a panel upstream from the panel where the work is being performed?
No. If there are no exposed energized electrical components after a person has locked and tagged out the disconnect, and verified de-energization, per the requirements of §1910.333(b)(2), then there would be no potential for electric shock or arc flash. The protective equipment mentioned would not be required. This answer pertains only to exposure to de-energized parts and not to employee exposure to any circuit parts that have not been de-energized. However, personal protective equipment may be required by another condition independent of electrical hazards. For example, if an employee is working in the panel box and using a drill or saw that is creating flying particles, or if the employee is using a chemical that presents a splash hazard to the eyes, then eye and/or face protection may be required.

It is October 2024, and I want to share a shopping experience with you – maybe you can relate.
We have some large pharmacies in our area. But when I walk through the stores, I see a lot more than just the pharmacist and medical and first aid products. So many of these drugstores sell so much more than medications. Look around for yourself and you’ll see greeting cards, gift wrapping paper, school supplies, household essential items like light bulbs, detergent, paper goods, and more. And in the grocery aisles, you’ll likely find beverages, snacks, cereals, bacon, cheese, and yogurt. Don’t forget about convenient photo processing including regulation size and quality passport photos. Add to that frozen foods, and a trip to the drugstore can save you a lot of time and inconvenience by shopping at a place you know and trust. And the way these stores are designed, you usually have to walk through the non-pharmacy aisles to get to the pharmacist. If that wasn’t true, then the big drugstore chains wouldn’t be investing so much space and inventory dollars making themselves a one-stop shop for your needs.
So here is my point. For many years, customers like you have relied on Saf-T-Gard International for your electrical safety needs. We knew and understood electrical safety before NFPA 70E and EV entered the conversation. We have been supplying rubber insulating gloves for most of our 88-year history (side note – our company was founded as a manufacturer of rubber industrial gloves). And as operators of one of the largest independent test facilities for rubber insulating products and related accessories, customers like you have sent us your rubber insulating gloves and related products for the OSHA-required periodic retesting. But just like you purchase non-pharmaceuticals from your local drugstore because you trust them and it is convenient, consider Saf-T-Gard as your trusted supplier for head-to-toe PPE and facility safety products in addition to your electrical safety needs.
We are Saf-T-Gard International – Bringing Workers Home Safely Since 1936. Sincerely, Richard A. Rivkin, CEO and Chairman of the Board |
