Upgrade Your AED at Saf-T-Gard Now During American Heart Month and Receive a $400 Credit |
February is American Heart Month, a nationwide observance that spotlights cardiovascular disease and the need for more lifesavers. Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a leading cause of unexplained death in the United States. Each year, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital in the United States – and 90% of these are fatal. Moreover, approximately 10,000 sudden cardiac arrests occur in the workplace in the United States each year, according to data from the American Heart Association (AHA) and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). These events account for about 13% of all workplace fatalities.
SCA occurs when an electrical malfunction of the heart causes it to suddenly stop beating properly. There are no warning signs, and it can happen to anyone, anywhere. You don’t need to be a professional rescuer to help a SCA victim while waiting for emergency services to arrive. A victim’s best chance of survival is immediate treatment with cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and an AED.
As the manager of your building, facility, or office, you’re responsible for the safety of your employees. Do you have the necessary resources available in case of an emergency? Someone’s life may depend on it. Are you prepared to respond to an SCA emergency?
THE IMPORTANCE OF AEDs Investing in AEDs and making early defibrillation a part of your emergency response plan is important. Here’s why: |
-
Defibrillation within three minutes of SCA increases the chances of survival
- Calling 911 is necessary, but the wait for first responders may take too long, as the average
call-to-shock time in a typical community is nine minutes -
OSHA now recommends AEDs in the workplace, and legislation in your state may require workplaces to provide them

1. HANDS-ON SAFETY - Not all gloves are created equal. Match your hand protection to the hazard, whether it’s cut resistance, chemical splash, impact, or extreme temperatures.
2. HANDS-ON SAFETY - Check glove ratings before you buy. ANSI/ISEA 105 cut levels help determine the right protection for sharp tools and materials.
3. HANDS-ON SAFETY - Disposable gloves should be changed frequently and never washed for reuse, as chemicals and contaminants can compromise material integrity.
4. HANDS-ON SAFETY - Impact-resistant gloves with TPR back-of-hand protection help reduce injuries from crush and pinch-point hazards. 5. HANDS-ON SAFETY - Proper glove fit matters. Gloves that are too tight reduce dexterity and circulation, while oversized gloves can increase snag and entanglement risks. |

Question - What’s the difference between a hard hat and a safety helmet?
Answer - Traditional hard hats are designed primarily to protect against impacts from falling objects and typically provide top-impact protection only. Modern safety helmets, on the other hand, offer enhanced protection by safeguarding against both top and side impacts. They feature a more secure fit with integrated chin straps to help keep the helmet in place during slips, trips, or falls, and often include advanced padding and compatibility with face shields, hearing protection, and other accessories. As jobsite hazards evolve, safety helmets are increasingly adopted to provide more comprehensive head protection in high-movement and working-at-heights environments.
OSHA now allows and encourages the use of safety helmets instead of traditional hard hats in many situations – especially where workers face lateral impacts or fall hazards. |

What is the threshold level for a mandatory hearing conservation program?
OSHA Regulations Sec. 1910.95(c)(1) - The employer shall administer a continuing, effective hearing conservation program, as described in paragraphs (c) through (o) of this section, whenever employee noise exposures equal or exceed an 8-hour time-weighted average sound level (TWA) of 85 decibels measured on the A scale (slow response) or, equivalently, a dose of fifty percent. For purposes of the hearing conservation program, employee noise exposures shall be computed in accordance with appendix A and Table G-16a, and without regard to any attenuation provided by the use of personal protective equipment.

It’s February and it’s 2026 – our 90th year. How our company has evolved from a small, Chicago-based manufacturer of rubber-coated industrial work gloves to a global supplier of world-class head-to-toe personal protective equipment and facility safety products. A lot has changed over the course of those 90 years.
90 years ago, a lot of work gloves were purchased at local retailers such as hardware stores. Only the largest companies purchased gloves to issue to their workers. The channels of distribution have evolved significantly – driven by legislation, regulation, risk- management, and other factors. Today nearly all safety products for industrial use are purchased by employers.
90 years ago, we were a glove company. Today our focus, experience, and expertise has broadened to full range industrial safety products. Even our name has changed from Latex Glove Company to Saf-T-Gard International to reflect that growth.
90 years ago, our company received customers’ purchase orders by mail, telephone, and personal visits by sales representatives. Today we do business the way our customers want to do business – primarily electronically (online and email and EDI and punchout and cloud-based procurement and supply chain management platforms) plus telephone and still involving sales representatives. We still have an active fax number and even one typewriter (but nobody uses it)! 90 years ago, our company was a privately-owned family business. Today that hasn’t changed at all. We are still a financially-strong privately-owned family business – large enough to serve customers in the Fortune 500 and small enough to stay passionate and focused on industrial safety.
But we’re not coasting through a victory lap for our 90th year. We continue to invest in the resources supporting our commitment to customer service and quality, world-class products. Experience matters when it comes to your workers’ safety. That’s us - Saf-T-Gard International –
Bringing Workers Home Safely Since 1936. Sincerely, Richard A. Rivkin, CEO and Chairman of the Board |
